About us
Resisting the urge to live an ordinary life
Hi, we are Zach and Emily and welcome to our non-ordinary life. This blog was started to document our adventures of embarking on a huge new chapter in our life. We would love for you to tag along as we share our experiences; not only the day-to-day stuff, but the really hard stuff, the sad stuff, the stuff that makes you want to quit and give up, but mostly the great stuff, and there is A LOT of that! As we walk through each day as a Christian family, we just wanting to share the love and be thankful for the blessings we experience with others.
HOW IT STARTED: We are just two kids from two small towns on the opposite sides of Canada. Zach is from Nova Scotia and Emily is from Alberta. Despite the cultural differences our families shared (east coast/west coast) we shared some essential core values, which made the compatibility test so much easier. Both our families love the outdoors and everything associated with it.
Our whirlwind of a romance started in early 2016…off tinder no less… and we were engaged a year later and married only 5 months after that, on September 2, 2017. We quickly grew our family with Hunter in 2019 and Nova in 2021. They both have more energy than we know what to do with, but we always have so much fun and they bring us so much joy and love.
NOW FOR THE BIG ADVENTURE: WE ARE QUITING OUR DAY JOBS, PACKING UP OUR LIFE AND MOVING TO PANAMA, CENTRAL AMERICA.
There are so many reasons we decided to make this change and we cannot wait to tell you all of them as you read our blogs. What we write here will not only encompass our new adventure in Panama, but also all the mundane day to day things we all go through in life.
We hope you enjoy reading about our experiences and escapades, as we go through life together on our little slice of the internet.
Zach – Emily – Hunter – Nova

I’m Emily. It’s nice to meet you! I do most of the writing here, so figured I would tell you more about the person behind the blog. My friends and family would describe me as someone with endless energy, very outgoing, motivated and hard working. I am a mother, a wife, a Christian, a hunter, and many other things, but those are the big ones near and dear to my heart. My family and friends mean the world to me and spending time with them is super important. I love being outdoors and since I was a kid I have loved camping, quading, hiking, and anything that will get me moving outside. I am one of those crazy people that has a ton of energy and a bit of AHDH. I tend to be an anxious person, which is probably why I love to plan and be in control so much, but I am a work in progress. I am a clean freak, a home body, love to travel but nothing is more comforting than a routine and my own bed.
After reading all this, you are probably wondering how on earth I am going to move to a new country, and I guess we will all find out together. I am so very excited about making this big move but I am also scared for this new adventure. Even though I am scared I have all the faith that this is the right decision for our family and I know God has it all worked out so I am determined to let go of my fear.

Hey it’s Zach here. I am the husband and father. I am the easy-going one in this relationship and tend to go with the flow more on day to day things, which is probably my east coast attitude coming out. I am an avid hunter, pro (or so I wish) golfer, the typical good at all sports kid of guy, and I am also a certified firefighter. I love the thrill of helping people in all different scenarios and am passionate about making a difference. People would describe me as hard working, funny, athletic and a family man. I like to stay busy, whether that is hanging with family or friends, being out hunting, quading or camping, or just finding something fun to do. I also love to tinker and learn new skills.
On a scale of 1-10, I was a -2 on wanting to move to a new place. I’m not sure how I lost that battle, but my letter of resignation is already sent in, so I am committed. I am excited to be able to golf in January and escape some of this -30 cold we have here, as well as know what it is like to sleep in past 4am. Lets see where this adventure takes us.

Hi I am Hunter, I am 3. I have so much energy nobody can keep up to me and am sure I have super power speed because I love to run and am so fast. I love my curly hair, I am very good at building things and I would be outside all day every day if mom and dad would let me. I also love to go hunting with my family (it’s ironic that my name is Hunter, I know). Camping and quading are also some of my favorite activities and I have inherited dads ability to be good at all sports. I love to talk and will tell you all sorts of things if you let me. I love people and am super affectionate. I am so excited to go to Panama and tell everyone we are moving there.
Nova here! I am almost 2 years old. I seem to also be blessed with all the energy in the world….thanks mom! I like to try to keep up with my big brother Hunter because he is pretty much my fave person and I love to do everything he does. I am a chatterbox and love to be heard, even if that means I need to scream it. I may look very innocent and fragile but I am full of sass and am super tough. I am usually happiest outside playing with Hunter and very much enjoy being taken along on all the hunting, camping and quading adventures we go on.
